Nvidia is developing Nemotron 4 open-source models to rival OpenAI

In a significant move, Nvidia is reportedly developing a new AI model Nemotron, aiming to rival open-source models internationally, according to The Information reports released on Tuesday.

The major move is one of few by a major US firm to release an open-sourcing model, which has garnered a lot of attention this year as AI bills balloon and cheap Chinese models near the level of advanced multi-step reasoning from leading American labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI.

According to The Information reports, a surge of agentic AI agents has gained attention specifically because open models do not have cybersecurity constraints. The new Nemotron offering is free for companies to download, use and modify without getting permission from Nvidia. 

Nonetheless, openAI is a growth engine for chip sales because the models still need to run on GPUs, and the lower prices help to elevate usage over exclusive models from the likes of OpenAI and Anthropic. Furthermore, Nvidia released software called NeMo Switchyard that can provide the most appropriate AI model for any sort of task.
