Zoe Saldaña reveals her next career plan after achieving Hollywood stardom

Zoe Saldaña, as an actor, has achieved much that few of her peers can match, such as winning an Academy Award and being part of several of the of Hollywood's biggest franchises.

But now she has her sights set on a far different role than her current thespian one.

She revealed to the audience at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland that she wanted to step into a director's role.

“I have a feeling that I can only watch other people’s direction for so long until I kind of say, 'Give me that camera!’”

Not stopping there, the actress added, "Because women, we all think that we’re right because we are half the time. So I would like to prove myself.”

At the festival, Saldaña received a Special Honorary Pardo and highlighted her outsider roots – she was born in the Dominican Republic – which she said are useful in her approach to her characters.

“It was quite difficult for us to be torn from a New York kind of culture where you get to meet the world in your block," the star said.

Given the difficulty in growing up and feeling like an outsider, Saldaña said this, however, helped her bring into her craft while playing Neytiri in Avatar and Gamora in the Guardians of the Galaxy.

"It's rich to grow up in a culture like that. And then I went to a small island where it’s very homogenous and it’s one religion, one form of being, and though the growing pains were big, so was the growth," she concluded.
