'Mbappe is better than you': Cristiano Ronaldo opens up about son's honest opinion
At the 2026 FIFA, Portuguese footballer confirmed that it would be his final World Cup appearance.
Cristiano Ronaldo in a recent interview has opened up about what his son Mateo thinks about him as a player.
The Portuguese football player talked about how his son enjoys seeing the videos of players on YouTube.
“I go home and sometimes Mateo is watching YouTube and he is seeing players.” When asked by the interviewer what players he watches, Ronaldo answered, “He likes Bellingham a lot. He also likes Camavinga and Mbappé,” then amusingly declares his son thinks, “Mbappé is better than his father.”
Ronaldo went on saying he countered son’s opinion asserting, “I have scored more goals than him,” adding jokingly “Then I remind him that Mbappé missed a penalty” and Mateo replied, “You missed one too.”
Echoing Ronaldo's previous 2025 interview about Mateo's passionate Real Madrid fandom, the light-hearted exchange showcases the football icon gracefully embracing the brutally honest opinions of a kid, offering fans a warm and relatable glimpse of a legend staying completely grounded at home.
The video clip circulating on X drew the users’ attention who praised Ronaldo for his unforgettable legacy.
One user wrote, “His son doesn't even know that his father is Mbappe’s idol.”
Another quipped, “Kids are absolutely ruthless. No Ballon d'Ors, Champions Leagues or goal records matter at home Mateo's got the last word every time. Football debates hit different when it's your own son.”
“For a child to be this confident and comfortable having such a conversation with his dad says a lot about the love, and bond they're sharing,” the third one added.
At the 2026 FIFA World Cup ahead of Portugal’s Round of 16, the 41-year-old confirmed that it would be his final World Cup appearance.
Portugal's subsequent exit from the tournament marked the end of his record-breaking run on world football's biggest international stage.
