Claude can now log in for you without seeing passwords: Here’s how
1Password for Claude is now live on Mac, letting Claude complete logins for tasks like travel booking without ever seeing your passwords
1Password has launched a new integration that lets Claude complete browser-based tasks requiring an account login, without the AI agent ever seeing a password or two-factor code.
The Mac feature turns a partnership first outlined in March into a working tool aimed at tasks like booking travel or managing online accounts that previously required a user to log in manually before handing control back.
How does credential handoff work?
According to 1Password, credentials which have been approved are transported via a secure channel, and they are injected right onto the target web page without ever reaching Claude’s context or memory or Anthropic's databases. It is not necessary to provide general and permanent access to the vault, but rather to provide access to a particular login credential when needed.
Authorisation is provided through a biometric prompt, which is automatically revoked after the session expires. When there are workflows with multiple steps involved, 1Password is able to authorise access to several websites within a single task.
The release also introduces Agentic Mode, which locks down the 1Password vault the moment a compatible AI agent takes browser control, leaving only the credentials explicitly approved for that task accessible. Users can see when the mode is active and cancel it at any point during the session.
1Password also checks the pages after autofill is completed. In case of failure of the form submission, all the filled-in values will be cleared before giving control back to the agent, thus eliminating the possibility of having credentials lying around in a broken form.
1Password for Claude is already available for Mac users on a business, family, and individual plan and needs both the 1Password and Claude applications as well as the browser extensions of both the products. The support for payment cards and identity will come in the future; hence, the feature supports only login credentials for now.
