Colin Farrell has shared his one key condition for his return to The Penguin series.

For those unaware, Farrell played the role of Penguin in a crime drama television miniseries developed by Lauren LeFranc for HBO. The series, which debuted in 2024, has not yet been greenlit for a sophomore season.

At the season 2 premiere of his Apple TV show Sugar at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles on June 17, the Irish actor opened up to PEOPLE magazine about The Penguin and whether he is planning to mark his return by reprising his role.

Farrell told the outlet that he strongly believes the series has a “potential to explore more.”

He added, “Should we? Can we get there? Could we justify a second or a third season when the first season was as strong as it was?”

“They're the conversations that we still need to have,” The Banshees of Inisherin star quipped.

Farrell stated that he thinks the second season will remain delayed until production on his new Batman movie begins.

He shared, “The powers that be are working very hard on bringing Batman to life now — the second film, so there's no time to get into [another season of The Penguin].”

“But maybe when the shooting on that is completed, maybe we'll start thinking about a second and third season of Penguin. But it would have to justify itself. It'd have to be amazing because [showrunner] Lauren LeFranc and her team did such an extraordinary job in the first season,” The Lobster actor elaborated.

It is pertinent to mention that the neo-noir mystery drama television series, Sugar, which casts Collin Farrell as John Sugar, premiered on Apple TV+ on June 19, 2026. Watch the trailer here.
