Ray Dorset, the Mungo Jerry star, recently opened up about his health woes.

The 80-year-old British guitarist and singer-songwriter took to his official account on X (formerly Twitter), where he informed his fans about being taken to the hospital in Bournemouth after his recent surgery.

Dorset sang praises of the NHS staff for taking care of him and keeping him cheered up by singing his hit song.

He wrote, “Once again I have been taken by ambulance to Bournemouth hospital following my recent surgery. A few minutes ago whilst laying on my back awaiting an ultrasound scan I could hear a few nurses singing In The Summertime.”

“I said to myself ‘Oh no I have been recognised,’ but I have to admit that I began chuckling despite the discomfort. What a day!” Dorset remarked.

“Thanks again so much for all of the good wishes. I got back from the hospital in the early hours of this morning, & I have to be back tomorrow morning. All of the staff at the hospital could not have been nicer so massive thanks to all of the staff at the Bournemouth Hospital,” the Sweet Mary Jane crooner later tweeted.

Notably, Dorset did not share the details of his surgery; however, he suffered from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) when he was once on a tour with the rock band Mungo Jerry.

It is pertinent to mention that In The Summertime turned out to be a great success for him, as six million copies were sold in the first six months after the song’s release in 1970.
