X launches video reactions, turning every post into content studio–Here’s how it works
The feature will be available to IOS users
X is launching a new feature called “react with video”, allowing users to record video reactions directly within the app and turning every post into a potential content studio.
The new feature shows similarity with popular social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
The announcement of introducing this feature comes from X head of product Nikita Bier. Nikita posted, “Commentary is one of the most important pillars of X. And sometimes the best way to share your thoughts is with video.”
“Today we're launching a whole new way to make them: React with Video”
How to use this feature
“Tap the repost button and start recording with green screen, split screen, or picture-in-picture,” Nikita said.
Initially the feature is available to IOS users who can record quick responses in picture-in-picture or green screen modes. One can access the feature in the overlay menu when selecting the Repost button on a post.
When you tap on it, the original post appears in the background while you can record your reaction or thoughts overlay. If you want to pause at any moment, there is an option too. By clicking on the pause button, you can stop and resume recording as per your choice.
Once you finish recording the video, you can preview your reaction video prior to posting it as a reply to the post.
Editing options
This feature will exempt the users or creators from using external editing tools, downloading clips, and complicated workflow.
If you want to remove a background, the app can automatically remove it. Talking about the video placement, you can resize your video and choose its placement.
The feature also comes in different layout modes:
- Picture-in-picture: Reaction sits over the content
- Split-screen: Divides the view between you and the original post
- Full-screen Media: Allows you to hide the original post's text to focus entirely on its attached image or video
It is designed to leverage the viral nature of reaction style videos, providing users with a more expressive way to reply to posts.
The announcement took the internet by storm as the users praised this feature. One tech enthusiast wrote on X, “This is brilliant! React with Video is exactly what commentary on X needed — green screen, split screen, picture-in-picture… so clean and creative. Finally, a smart way to add your thoughts with video without leaving the app. Huge win for the platform. Well done.”
Another one commented, “X is getting reaction videos, YouTube is getting threads and polls. Every app is becoming every other app. That’s interesting and weird at the same time.”
Some others questioned the utility of the feature, stating, “Kinda cool, but also let’s not turn this into FB or YouTube please.”
