'Sinners' star Hailee Steinfeld reveals secret behind her 'vulnerable' postpartum recovery

Hailee Steinfeld is mindful about what she eats and tries her best to be as "gentle" as possible with herself weeks after giving birth.

​The Sinners star, who welcomed her first baby with her husband, Josh Allen, last month, shared rare insights into her postpartum recovery routine.

​Reflecting on the importance of nutrition for a mother after giving birth, the Pitch Perfect star shared on her Beau Society Substack, "My amazing doula has taught me so much about postpartum nutrition. In general, she advised me to stick to warm foods during my postpartum recovery to help digestion and boost nutrient absorption, a philosophy that stems from Ayurveda."

​The newly minted mom went on to share, "Knowing this, my mom made me this amazing albondigas soup the other day. It's one of those rare soups that looks as good as it tastes."

​During this vulnerable time of postpartum, Heng Ou's postpartum cookbook, The First 40 Days, came in handy for Hailee.

​The 29-year-old actress shared, "Every word has resonated. There's a paragraph early on that talks about how even forty days after giving birth, you're still in such a vulnerable state. People understand that about your new baby, but they don’t understand that about you, the mom."

​She added, "I'm still in this early period, and need to remember to be super gentle with myself in every way — physically, mentally, nutritionally, spiritually, all of it."

​This came after the doting shared an adorable glimpse of her baby girl to celebrate Mother's Day on her Instagram.

​She posted two snaps, one of which showed the tiny hand of the little one wrapping her tiny finger around Hailee's index finger.

​While the other showcased the baby girl clad in a white onesie with black polka dots and strawberry-designed socks on the feet.

​It is pertinent to mention that Hailee and Josh tied the knot in a private ceremony back in May 2025. The pair began dating in May 2023 and got engaged in November 2024. The first announced that they were expecting their first child in December 2025.
