Adrien Brody lifts the lid of 'strange sacrifice' for his Broadway debut in 'The Fear of 13'
Adrien Brody opens up about his role in Broadway's 'The Fear of 13' and how he prepared for it
Adrien Brody has a solid reason to share regarding his seclusion from his family and friends for months for his Broadway debut in The Fear of 13.
On Friday, May 15, Brody’s interview with Interview magazine was published, where he opened up about his decision to live alone in a hotel room away from his inner circle for five months while preparing for The Fear of 13.
Sharing his thoughts, the 53-year-old American actor and visual artist said, “It is lonesome, of course. But I'm playing a man who has lived far deeper in that isolation. What I experience is only scratching the surface.”
He did not feel anxious about staying alone from his loved ones; rather, it was extremely necessary to completely feel how his character Nick Yaris felt while being in “solitary.”
Brody explained, "It doesn't just come from the responsibility of these four or five months, it comes from the life I've lived up to this point, from accessing those experiences and honoring the people reflected in Nick's story and journey.”
"Living alone in a room for nearly half a year, most days of the week, is part of what I give to the work,” he noted.
Despite confessing that living solo was “a strange thing,” it was necessary to “sacrifice certain comforts and freedoms for roles like this.”
The King Kong star quipped, “It's not the first time I've done it, and it won't be the last,” as such experiences not only hone your work, but they also lead to a "greater appreciation of life."
For those unaware, The Fear of 13, based on a true story, stars Brody for the role of Nick, “who was wrongfully incarcerated and spent 22 years on death row for a murder he didn't commit.”
It is pertinent to mention that Adrien Brody will perform his Broadway run through July 12.
