A suspect, aged 31, has been arrested, authorities said, adding the man, who is from Torrance, California, will appear in court tomorrow after he attempted to enter the White House Correspondents' Dinner with arms.
Despite the shots being fired, outside the ballroom, President Donald Trump and others escaped harm.
Cole Tomas Allen – the suspect – was rushed to a local hospital for a check-up after being taken into custody.
Though the Interim Chief of Police of the Metropolitan Police Department, Jeffery W. Carroll, said gunfire had not struck him.
Details shared by the law enforcement officials stated the shooter was armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives.
He shot a U.S. Secret Service agent in his bulletproof vest, sending him to the hospital.
In the video, released on social media, the suspect was seen purportedly rushing toward the ballroom; however, he was detained in the lobby.
He is facing several federal charges, including using a firearm and attacking a federal officer, said U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, who added a possibility of filing additional charges at his first formal appearance in court.
The shocking incident occurred during the White House Correspondents' Dinner, an annual event.
Various high-profile figures attended the event, including government officials and journalists.
It is immediately unclear what the suspect's motive is.
Cole Tomas Allen: A teacher and a video game developer
Fresh details about Allen emerged that the Southern California resident was a teacher and video game developer.
He earned his mechanical engineering degree from the California Institute of Technology in 2017 and his master's degree in computer science from California State University–Dominguez Hills in 2025.
According to CNN, his LinkedIn profile shows his part-time profession as a teacher at C2 Education, a tutoring company.
There is a post in late December by the company that recognized the suspect as "teacher of the month".
In addition to teaching, Allen has been working as a video game developer, and what the report in CNN suggests is that he has even released Bohrdom, an independent game on the Steam platform for $1.99.
While his second game with the title First Law is in the works, according to his profile on LinkedIn.
