King Charles and Queen Camilla visited the British Museum to view the final designs for a national memorial to Elizabeth in London's St James's Park, featuring statues of the queen and her late husband Prince Philip.

The royal family released a video of the royal's visit with a brief statement that said, "Today The King and Queen were joined by other members of the Royal Family at the British Museum to view a scale model of the new national memorial to commemorate the life of Queen Elizabeth II."

It added, "Their Majesties and Their Royal Highnesses met memorial designer Lord Norman Foster as well as the three artists producing work for the site. The model will remain on public display at the British Museum.

The statement concluded," The tribute will overlook The Mall in central London, and is inspired by the 1955 portrait of the Queen at age 28 by Italian artist Pietro Annigon."

The video showed Prince Edward, Duchess Sophie, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester accompanying the monarch and his wife during the visit. Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton were not present during the royals' visit to the museum.

Earlier, King Charles paid a tender tribute to his late mother Queen Elizabeth on what would have been her 100th birthday, saying his "darling Mama" would "remain forever in our hearts and prayers".
