Frontier Airlines flight hit by bomb threat at Atlanta Airport, probe launched
Level 4 security incident occurred on Frontier Airlines flight F9 2539
A Frontier Airlines flight travelling from Columbus, Ohio, to Atlanta in the United States triggered a major security nightmare on March 29, after a passenger issued a verbal bomb threat as the aircraft was ready to land.
On Sunday afternoon, Frontier Airlines flight F9 2539 was forced into an emergency landing at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport following a Level 4 security alert.
The onboard passenger also threatened to kill passengers along with a threat that he is carrying a bomb.
As the Airbus A320 made its final approach, the cockpit crew notified air traffic control of a high-level threat, urging officials to divert the aircraft to a remote taxiway far from passenger terminals and other air traffic to activate emergency protocols.
"As a matter of precaution and in coordination with local authorities, the aircraft parked at a remote location while law enforcement responded," according to Frontier.
Given the gravity of the situation, the authorities immediately treated the situation as a “highly potential security threat.”
Soon after the landing, the Federal Bureau of Investigation started an investigation into bomb threats. Later the officials confirmed that the threats were false and non-credible.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this security nightmare. According to an airline spokesperson, airport operations remain normal after security clearance.
"The FBI can assure the traveling public there is no continuing threat related to this incident," the agency said in a statement.
