How Gemini is reimagining the future of Google Maps: Here’s everything to know
Google will help you prepare for your next move by providing a broader perspective of your route
Google Maps has officially launched “Immersive Navigation,” describing it as the most significant overhaul of the Google Maps driving experience in over a decade. This update redesigns visuals to offer more intuitive guidance, starting with a 3D view that reflects surrounding buildings, overpasses and terrain. These maps underscore lanes, crosswalks, traffic lights, and other critical road details that help you turn or merge confidently.
See more of your journey with a broader route view
Maps can better provide a sense of what’s coming up by giving you a broader view of your route. Smart zooms and transparent buildings help you look ahead, preparing you for tricky turns and lane changes well in advance. Maps incorporate over 5 million updates to traffic around the world but we’re always finding ways to find the best route behind the scenes. Maps will also inform you about tradeoffs for alternate routes, such as longer trips or a faster route that includes a toll.
Navigate the last leg of your trip with confidence
You can preview your destination and its surroundings with Street View imagery, before heading out, and get recommendations for where to park. As you approach, Maps will underscore the building’s entrance, nearby parking, and which side of the street to be on-so you can go from the last turn to the front door with confidence. The combination of Gemini models helps to better understand the world and unlocks entirely new possibilities for how you navigate your daily life and discover new places. Immersive Navigation is beginning to roll out today in the US; Google says "availability will expand over the coming months to eligible iOS and Android devices, CarPlay, Android Auto and cars with Google built in.
