Microsoft confirms Xbox Project Helix: Full specs, pricing, release timeline
Microsoft's new gaming chief makes her first major public announcement just days into the role
Microsoft’s Xbox division has officially announced the codename of its next-gen gaming console, which is codenamed Project Helix and promises to turn the entire world of console design on its head.
In a social media announcement, Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma revealed the news that the company’s upcoming Xbox Project Helix gaming console will be capable of playing both Xbox and PC games.
The announcement comes at a time when the company’s long-time Xbox head, Phil Spencer, announced his retirement. Sharma revealed that the company’s upcoming next-gen Xbox gaming console will be capable of playing both Xbox and PC games.
The device is still under its development phase, and more information about the device could be revealed at the upcoming Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
Sharma, who took over from the previous Xbox leader, Phil Spencer, last week, has now confirmed the news in her first major statement since taking over the role.
What is Microsoft’s Xbox Project Helix?
"Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games," Sharma wrote, confirming the rumours that have been circulating for months.
Microsoft has not revealed the specifications of the device, but the rumoured specs reveal that the next-gen Xbox could be a powerhouse, boasting 48GB of GDDR7 RAM, 68 RDNA 5 GPU compute units, and a performance target of native 4K at 120 FPS on a TSMC 3nm chip, which would make the device twice as powerful as the PS5 Pro.
Project Helix price and release date
Project Helix will not come cheap; rumours suggest that it will likely be priced between $900 and $1,400, which is quite a hike from the Xbox Series X's original price tag of $499. The device is expected to launch in 2027.
