Tish Cyrus calls post-divorce period 'roughest' time of her life
Tish Cyrus said her mom's death and Billy Ray Cyrus divorce hit back-to-back
Tish Cyrus opened up about the traumatic phase of life post-Billy Ray Cyrus divorce shortly after the death of her mother, Loretta “Mammie” Finley.
In a recent appearance on The Squeeze podcast, Tish said the events came so close together that she did not have time to properly process them.
“Two of the most probably tragic things in my life that happened, I did not, like, process or even stop to really think,” Tish told Tay Lautner.
Tish revealed her mother died in 2020 “during COVID.” She explained how close Mammie was to the family.
“I was very close to my mom, and my kids were really close to my mom,” she said, adding that her mother lived with them while Miley Cyrus filmed Hannah Montana. “She was just a massive part of our lives.”
She also shared how close Mammie was to Miley. “Her and Miley were very close. She'd go to the set with Miley and just my kids just worshiped her,” Tish said.
“When she passed, not long after that, my marriage started falling apart.”
Back in 2024, Tish revealed in an interview with People that she was "terrified" to leave her marriage, “I thought I was going to be alone forever,” she said at the time.
Now she described the phase to the podcast host as “freaking rough … it was the roughest thing I've ever gone through.”
She coped with her anxiety by smoking weed at the time.
Tish admitted that therapy helped her in her recovery. “When I started therapy, and I really started talking about my life and moving out here and my kids in the business and, what my life had been, they were like, ‘Wow,'" she added.
