Friends of Prince William 'aghast' as King Charles offers olive branch to Harry, Meghan Markle
King Charles is "acutely aware that his time is not infinite" and is focused on seeing his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet
The friends of Prince William (and much of the British public) will be ‘aghast’ amid reports King Charles is set to offer an olive branch to Meghan Markle and Harry upon their upcoming trip to UK in July.
As per reports, King Charles may invite the son and daughter-in-law to stay at Highgrove House during their visit to UK for the Invictus Games event.
The Gloucestershire residence is described as “ultra-secure” and is said to be under consideration should Meghan and Harry travel to Britain.
Amid these claims, royal expert Tom Sykes says, "Friends of William (and much of the British public) will be aghast.
"They see that the Sussexes have extracted concessions from the King without apology or contrition.”
The expert further said, "From that perspective, offering Highgrove looks like capitulation to Harry and Meghan's original ask to be half-in, half-out of the royal family, which the late Queen Elizabeth explicitly rejected."
Sykes further said the Palace sources neither confirmed nor denied the reported offer, but claimed the monarch is "acutely aware that his time is not infinite."
King Charles is focused on seeing his grandchildren and healing a rift that could "otherwise come to define his reign".
He added, "From that vantage point, an offer of a bed at Highgrove is not weakness but an attempt to take control of events."
