'Stranger Things' creator eases fans' fear ahead of season 5 finale: 'Not Game of Thrones'

The creators of Stranger Things are easing fans' anxieties as speculation swirls around the fate of beloved characters in the Netflix hit's final season.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, co-creator Matt Duffer addressed growing fears that the show has been heavily foreshadowing major character deaths ahead of the series finale. 

When asked, “You have been foreshadowing more than one character being ready to die for the larger cause. How worried should we be about their survival?” Duffer was quick to put things into perspective.

He explained that while the stakes are undeniably high, the show is not aiming for shock value at the expense of its audience's emotional investment.

"It's not Game of Thrones. We’re not in Westeros," Duffer clarified. 

"There's not going to be a Red Wedding situation. We’re not trying to shock or upset anyone."

However, that does not mean the finale will be predictable. Duffer acknowledged that viewers can expect surprises, but stressed that the ultimate goal is narrative payoff rather than devastation.

“I hope by the time people get to the end of the finale that it just feels like there’s something inevitable about what happens,” he concluded.
