‘Strength of humanity’: Australian PM’s hospital visit honors Bondi Beach hero
The mass shooting at Bondi beach killed 15 people and injured dozens on Sunday.
Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese has paid an honourable hospital visit to Bondi Beach shooting hero Ahmed al Ahmed on Tuesday.
During the visit, the prime minister praised Ahmed’s efforts to avert one of the nation’s deadliest gun attacks in 30 years.
The bystander, who was identified on social media, hid behind the parked cars before attacking the shooter from behind, seizing his gun and knocking him to the ground.
During the efforts to disarm the gunman, Ahmed suffered from bullet injury in his hand and arm and underwent the surgery and is now recovering, as family confirmed.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said after a bedside visit with heavily bandaged Ahmed, "He was trying to get a cup of coffee and found himself at a moment where people were being shot in front of him.”
“He decided to take action and his bravery is an inspiration for all Australians,” Albanese added.
"At a moment where we have seen evil perpetrated, he shines out as an example of the strength of humanity. We are a brave country. Ahmed al Ahmed represents the best of our country,”
the prime minister said.
While talking about his health, Albanese said Ahmed would "undergo further surgery" on Wednesday.
The world has paid massive tributes to the bravery of Ahmed al Ahmed. In response to the tributes, Ahmed thanked well-wishers in a video widely circulating on social media.
