Just one hour of heavy torrential rain and flash floods had left houses and shops flooded in the coastal town of Morocco.
Safi, a town in Morocco was hit by disastrous flash flooding on Sunday December 14, 2025 killing at least 37 people,reports Al Jazeera.
According to the authorities, the floods swept across Atlantic coastal province of Morocco and "Fourteen people are currently being treated at Mohammed V hospital in Safi, including two in intensive care.”
Images on social media showed a torrent of muddy water sweeping cars and rubbish bins from the streets in the town of Safi, located some 300km (186 miles) south of the capital, Rabat.
At least 70 homes and businesses in the historic old city were flooded after just one hour of heavy rain, reports authorities.

Search and rescue operations were ongoing and necessary measures had been taken to secure the affected areas to provide support to residents after the deadliest severe weather disaster occurred in Morocco in over a decade,informs local government.
Furthermore, damage to roads cut off traffic along several routes to and from the port city on the Atlantic coast.
The floods were caused by exceptional thunderstorms that led to sudden and powerful flash floods,reports authorities.
While the public prosecutor ordered the judicial police to carry out an investigation to determine the real causes of this tragic incident and to clarify its circumstances.
