Bondi 'hero' who took down gunman is stable after surgery, family confirms
The recent incident is considered the country’s worst one mass shooting in almost 30 years
A 43-year-old fruit shop owner identified as Ahmed al Ahmed, is reportedly recovering from surgery after he bravely wrestled a gun from one of the alleged attacks during mass shooting at Bondi Beach.
During the effort to disarm the attacker, Ahmed suffered from bullet injury in his hand and arm and underwent the surgical procedure, his family confirmed.
The bystander, who was identified on social media, hid behind the parked cars before attacking the shooter from behind, seizing his gun and knocking him to the ground.
While interviewing to 7News Australia, Ahmed’s cousin Mustafa told the media outlet that Ahmed is stable and recovering following the surgery.
"He is a hero, he is a hundred percent hero," Mustafa said.
"Still he is in the hospital and we don't know exactly what's going on inside ... but we hope he will be fine,” he added.
Tributes have been paid across the world, praising the bravery of Ahmed. US president Donald Trump called Ahmed "a very, very brave person" who saved many lives.
According to Australian police official authorities, two gunmen, a father and son duo, are charged with committing the massacre by using legally obtained firearms.
According to witnesses, the assault at the crowded beach lasted about 10 minutes, killing 15 people and injuring dozens of people. The recent incident is considered the country’s worst one mass shooting in almost 30 years.
