Two killed and nine injured after deadly shootings at Brown University in Rhode Island
A suspect has been arrested after two people were killed and multiple injured in a shooting attack at Brown University in Rhode Island.
As reported by the Guardian, Mayor Brett Smiley of Providence informed that a person of interest was in custody on Sunday December 14, 2025 in connection with a shooting at Brown University that killed two students and injured nine.
According to the chief of the Providence Police Department Colonel Oscar Perez, the suspected person was an individual in their 30s.
While the officials did not give further details on the person who had been detained for the investigation.
According to the official reports, the shooting began in the engineering building of the Ivy League school in Providence, Rhode Island, during final exams at the university.
Hundreds of police officers deployed at the Brown University campus in pursuit of a shooter who opened fire in a classroom.
Providence Mayor Brett informed reporters, "Seven people who were injured in the Saturday December 13, 2025 shooting are in stable condition, with one of them in critical condition."
Brown University president Christina Paxson said in a news conference, “Our community’s strong, and we’ll get through it, but it’s devastating."
“Everybody's reeling, and we have a lot of recovery ahead of us," he added.
Rhode Island governor Dan McKee expressed “My thoughts are still centered on those individuals who lost their lives.”
While, many local businesses announced that they would remain closed and expressed their heartbreak and shock as the community continued to process the news of the shooting.
