Teenager plunges to death while taking a photograph on cliff at Australian beach

A teenager killed in a tragic fall and lost her life after jumping a safety fence and slipping off a cliff while trying to take a photograph on the Sunshine Coast at Moffat Beach.
The 17-year-old girl fell 30 metres at a lookout on Queen of Colonies Parade in Moffat Beach, with police called to the scene on December 13, 2025.
Bystanders and paramedics staff at beach immediately flocked to help her however, she died at the scene due to serious head injuries.
Another woman reportedly experienced minor injuries while attempting to help the teenager.
Detective Acting Inspector Peter Hocken said a group of teenage girls had been watching the sunset at Moffat Beach.
"They went over the railing to get a better view of the sunset, taking photos," said Peter.
Ryan Dubyk, an official from Queensland’s Fire and Rescue informed that people should stay back from fences when visiting lookouts, throughout the whole year.
According to the Daily Mail, teenager reportedly attended the lookout with her family, which offers sweeping views of Moffat Beach and the Coral Sea and is a popular spot for tourists and locals.
As investigation probe, a Queensland Police spokesperson said, "A report will be prepared for the coroner following the sudden death of a teenage girl at Moffat Beach last night, on 13 December, 2025."
Additionally, the authorities warned that the rugged terrain and steep cliffs pose significant risks for those who ignore safety signage.
