Two killed, nine injured after deadly shooting at US university
Hunt for suspect underway after a shooting at Brown University
A tragic incident occurred at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island resulting in two deaths and nine injuries on Saturday.
Concerning the serious situation, some of the injured are in a critical condition in hospital, and Providence Mayor Brett warned the number of casualties could rise.
As reported by BBC, the police said the attacker was a male dressed in black who fled on foot.
A separate person was initially taken into custody but was released after it was determined he had no involvement in the shooting.
The Gun Violence Archive (GVA), defines a mass shooting as an incident in which four or more victims are killed or injured, not including the attacker.
The two students at Brown University reportedly became the 345th and 346th people to lose their lives in mass shootings in the USA.
Police were of the view that the suspect appears to be in his thirties and that he was caught on camera leaving the building.
It has been observed that shootings occurred in a first floor classroom and it appears the victims are all students.
Investigations have been ongoing to find the actual cause of the serious incident.
Officials will release footage of the suspect after they complete their initial update.
Additionally, a video will be released from the building where the attack took place as the suspect left, representatives have confirmed.
The video showed that the suspect was wearing dark clothing, and his face was not visible.
Authorities have not shared any more information about the suspect. A press conference to release a photo of the suspect was expected earlier today, but it still has not happened.
The eastern edge of the Providence campus is under lockdown as the manhunt for the suspected shooter continues.
In this connection, the university’s president said, “We know this is a source of tremendous fear and anxiety across our community right now."
