Brendan Fraser opens about getting 'cold feet' in taking up the role of ‘Superman’

Brendan Fraser was once being considered to play Superman in J.J Abrams adaptation, produced by Brett Ratner.

While recalling that experience, the 56-year-old American Canadian actor revealed that he was getting nervous about tackling with such a big role having a very weighty legacy and lengthy time commitment.

He opened that he really loved the screenplay of the film.

“They let me read it. They locked me in an empty office in some studio lot; I signed an NDA. It was printed black on crimson paper, so you couldn’t photocopy it or sneak it out the door inconspicuously.”

The script for him looked like “it was Shakespeare in space”. It was a really good screenplay, said Brendan.

But Fraser believed that he was not ready to get forever associated with the Man of Steel.

He told at the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, “You feel a little certain anxiety anyway when you’re going up on some big job,” he said, “but I also remember thinking: ‘If I do get this job, then, well, I think Superman’s gonna be chipped on my gravestone.”

The Mummy actor felt that it was something that would become part of his entire brand and he wasn’t sure if he was ready to take that on.

The latest Superman film directed by James Gunn featured David Corenswet in superhero role.
