Noah Centineo may soon be stepping into the world of Gundam.
The actor — currently filming Street Fighter for Legendary — is now in talks to reunite with the studio for its large-scale, live-action adaptation of the iconic mecha franchise.
If negotiations move forward, Centineo would star opposite Sydney Sweeney, who is already attached to lead the sci-fi feature. The film is being directed by Jim Mickle, known for creating Netflix’s Sweet Tooth, and who also wrote the script for the still-untitled Gundam project.
The original Gundam anime debuted in 1979 and launched a massive franchise. Set in the Universal Century, the story unfolds in a future where Earth’s population has pushed humanity into space colonies.
Tensions escalate as the colonies seek independence, sparking a war fought through piloted giant robots, or mechas.
Legendary has declined to comment on Centineo’s potential casting. The studio had previously been in discussions with Outer Banks actor Drew Starkey, but those talks did not progress.
Sources say the new film is centered around Sweeney’s character, and that she has been actively involved in the casting of the male lead. In this version, the two central characters are on opposing sides of an interplanetary conflict, drawing thematic parallels to a Romeo & Juliet-style connection.
Centineo has remained in demand following his breakout in Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, roles in Black Adam, and A24’s war drama Warfare.
He is also preparing to shoot a Rambo prequel early next year. Meanwhile, Street Fighter, distributed by Paramount, is slated for release on October 16, 2026.
