Wicked fans after months of theories and speculations about Dorothy’s actress, can finally take a sigh of relief.
While the first act of Wicked film followed Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) story before the timeline of The Wizard of Oz, the sequel, Wicked: For Good aligns with Dorothy’s journey in Oz.
The casting had remained a secret until release because director Jon M. Chu didn't "want to step on who you think Dorothy is in whatever story that you came into this with."
He told the People magazine that it "is still Elphaba and Glinda’s journey, and she is a pawn in the middle of all of it."
Now with the release of Wicked: For Good, the end credits revealed the name everyone was waiting for.
The role is played by Bethany Weaver, a 30-year-old British dancer and actress, who recently choreographed the West End musical play Asmahan.
Playing the girl from Kansas City has been her long-time dream, as she wrote on her Instagram back in 2022, she was "aggressively manifesting that one day I will be in Wicked!"
Although her face was never explicitly shown in film and was also given few lines like yelling to the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) to wait for her as she wants to go home to Kansas.
Dorothy is one of the key characters in the world of Wicked, especially in the timeline of The Wizard of Oz.
She comes to Oz after a tornado carries her from her house in Kansas. At Oz her main goal is finding a way back homes. On her journey she meets the Wizard, hoping he can help her return and also defeats the Elphaba, Wicked Witch and becomes a hero.
