FIA and ICMPD educate students on dangers of human trafficking, irregular migration
Islamabad: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), in partnership with the Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) Peshawar of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), recently conducted a comprehensive awareness session to combat the growing threats of human trafficking and irregular migration. The event was held at the Government Technical Teachers Training College (GTTTC) in Peshawar.
The primary objective of the session was to equip students with the necessary knowledge to recognize the dangers associated with irregular migration and exploitation by criminal networks. It also strongly promoted the pursuit of safe and legal pathways for international employment, education, and travel.
Deputy Director FIA, Mehmood Ali Khokhar, addressed the participants, detailing the agency’s proactive strategies and ongoing operations to combat human trafficking and migrant smuggling across the region.
Mr. Khokhar underscored the critical role of technical education and youth awareness as vital preventative measures against exploitation. He warned that individuals with limited information are often targeted by criminal networks using fraudulent job offers and promises of illegal migration routes.
The representatives from the Migrant Resource Centre provided expert guidance on legitimate avenues for international mobility.
MRC Coordinator, Hameed Ullah Khan, and MRC Counsellor, Muhammad Hussain Abdali, elaborated on various legal migration pathways and highlighted the MRC’s supportive function in counselling individuals seeking opportunities abroad. They issued a strong advisory, urging students to meticulously verify all foreign job and educational opportunities through official, authorized government and institutional channels before making any final commitments.
The session featured an engaging interactive question-and-answer segment, with students demonstrating active participation.
