BANNU: Five suspected militants were killed in a counter-terrorism operation jointly conducted by the Bannu police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel near the Bannu-Lakki Marwat boundary on Saturday, officials said.
All police personnel and civilians remained safe during the action.
According to police, intelligence reports indicated the presence of militants in the Takhtikhel Huwaid area, located near the boundary of Bannu and Lakki Marwat districts.
Acting on the information, the Bannu police and CTD units launched a coordinated operation.
The operation was supervised by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Bannu Region, Sajjad Khan, while District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu, Saleem Abbas, led the action.
A police spokesperson said the joint team cordoned off the area and executed a strategic assault. The exchange resulted in the death of five militants, while the police team remained unhurt.
Residents supported the forces throughout the operation and expressed their commitment to continue assisting the police in its efforts to bring peace and stability to the area.
In a joint statement, the DIG and DPO said Bannu police remained fully prepared to protect the lives of citizens and maintain law and order.
They termed the operation successful and lauded the resolve, bravery, and professionalism of the force, adding that the safety of all personnel was made possible by timely intelligence and strong public cooperation.
