New ‘Star Trek’ movie in the works with game night directors
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to helm new 'Star Trek' film
David Ellison's takeover of Paramount raised questions about the future of Star Trek, including whether the studio would continue with existing projects or explore new territory.
Now, Paramount has answered some of those questions with the announcement of a new Star Trek movie, written and directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.
The duo, known for balancing comedy and action in films like Game Night and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, will produce the film through their GoldDay banner. The new movie is said to be unconnected to previous Star Trek films, meaning it will not feature the Chris Pine crew.
The news comes after the Duffer Bros. (Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, creators of Stranger Things) moved to Paramount from Netflix with plans to reboot the franchise, but they are not involved in this project.
The last Star Trek film, Star Trek Beyond (2016), underperformed globally with $343.4 million, leading to multiple projects being developed but none making it to completion. These included plans to reunite the Pine-led crew and an R-rated script by Quentin Tarantino.
Daley and Goldstein are represented by CAA, Fourth Wall Management, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.
