James Van Der Beek left his fans heartbroken by announcing the auction of some of the most iconic props from his TV career.
The Rules of Attraction star was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2023, in order to treat that and cover up the financial loss, he is selling his memorabilia from film Varsity Blues and beloved TV drama Dawson’s Creek.
As reported by the People magazine, the ailing actor has teamed up with Propstore to offer fans a rare opportunity to take home cherished items from his personal collection in their Winter Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, which will be held December 5–7, 2025.
"While I have some nostalgia tugging at me as I part with these items, it feels good to be able to offer them through Propstore’s auction to share with those who have supported my work over the years," said the Mrs. Miracle star.
He continued, "I’ve been storing these treasures for years, waiting for the right time to do something with them, and with all of the recent unexpected twists and turns life has presented recently, it’s clear that the time is now."
Once the news was announced, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) sympathising and sharing their thoughts.
One user wrote, "This is heartbreaking. He’s such a great dad with a beautiful family. I pray he gets through this."
Another fan said, "People should buy and return to him."
Apart from his own efforts, earlier this year, Dawson's Creek cast including Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson and Michelle Williams reunited in New York City to help raise funds for Van Der Beek’s treatment.
