Princess Anne kicked off King Charles’ birthday celebrations in Singapore with a perfectly timed joke, proving that even royals enjoy a little birthday banter.

Addressing hundreds of guests at Eden Hall, the Princess Royal quipped about the monarch’s “dual birthdays,” earning laughs as she noted,

"The timeliness of the celebration of King’s birthday is strangely quite close to his actual birthday for a change. It’s the end of this week. So, not bad."

Though Charles’ real birthday is on 14 November, the official celebrations were held in June with the Trooping the Colour parade and the traditional RAF flypast, classic royal scheduling to dodge the unpredictable British weather.

Speaking at Eden Hall in Singapore on 12th November, the Princess Royal celebrated not just her brother’s 77th birthday, but also six decades of diplomacy between the two nations.

“These birthday celebrations are always here at the historic setting of Eden Hall,” Anne said, noting the residence’s symbolic role in representing the UK’s enduring presence in Singapore.

“It is a remarkable milestone, sixty years of diplomatic relations. It seems quite short. It gives us that historical perspective to reflect on the state of that relationship.”

The Princess Royal also shared a personal memory, recalling her first visit to Singapore in 1972 alongside her late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and the “warmth of that welcome” they received.

With her trademark poise, Anne wove together royal celebration, history, and diplomacy, offering a thoughtful yet lighthearted nod to her older brother as he approaches another birthday.
