AI marriage becomes reality as Japanese woman weds virtual partner

The era of AI-powered intimacy is finally here as a 32-year-old Japanese woman officially married to an AI companion.

She built the AI persona named Klaus by using ChatGPT. After accepting the proposal from her virtual partner, she ended a three-year relationship with a real partner.

She argued that AI understands her better than humans, listens to her without judgement, and makes her feel genuinely supported.

The wedding took place in a mixed-reality ceremony where she wore AR glasses to exchange rings and vows with her digital husband.

“Most people say that humans are probably weird, and they are not widely understood,” she said.

The viral AI marriage post took the internet by storm and sparked debate on the future of human relationships based on emotional intimacy in the advanced age of artificial intelligence.

One user lamented, “This is just sad, society should not be enabling this mental illness. AI does not understand her better, it's just providing answers she wants to hear based on her communications with it.”

Another commented, “I know many people are disturbed by this story, but honestly, it reflects that human relationships are becoming fragile, and many give up at the slightest difficulty.”

A third user wrote, “She’s going to be upset when she realizes her new AI partner can’t take her to the movies, give her flowers, or food. Take care of her when she is sick, etc.”
