Pete Davidson reveals emotional connection to 'SNL' alum Eddie Murphy
Pete Davidson pays tribute to Eddie Murphy for helping him through 'dark' times
Pete Davidson discovered the power of comedy through watching Eddie Murphy in his childhood, which ultimately shaped his own career.
The 31-year-old actor and comedian made an appearance in Murphy’s new documentary, Being Eddie, and honoured the comedy legend’s legacy with a sentimental anecdote from his life.
The Saturday Night Live alum shared that Murphy’s stand-up special, Delirious, helped him cope after his father passed away in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
“Immediately, [I heard], ‘F--- this, suck this, f--- you,’ and my mom’s like, ‘Whoa, what did you get?’ I was dying laughing. She was like, ‘You can’t watch this!’ And I was like, ‘Please, I’m laughing,’” Davidson said.
The soon-to-be dad continued, “I think she saw I was enjoying myself at a time where I really wasn’t and she was like, ‘You can watch this stuff as long as you don’t repeat it or tell anybody, and it was kind of a little pact we made.’”
The Pickup star was only seven years old when his dad, who was a fireman, lost his life in the attack, leaving behind the actor, his mom Amy, and sister, Casey.
