The Euphoria actress revealed that she has “zero control” over how her actions are perceived, which is why she tried to remain silent after the public outrage.
When asked about the negative reactions over the ad, Sydney responded that she was “always just me”.
“I think what’s interesting is I’m always myself. I’m always just me. But it’s what other people put on me that’s uncontrollable,” explained the 27-year-old,
The White Lotus actress continued, “Like you’re going to write this article… Then people will read it and have their own perception.”
Therefore, Sydney added, “I try and be as much of me as possible, but it’s always through other people’s lenses.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the Anyone But You actress talked about her movie Christy, which is a biographical sports drama following the life of Christy Martin becoming the most successful female boxer of the 90s.
Reflecting on her character, Sydney opened up that she saw parallels between them, mentioning that she could relate to Christy on “a lot of different levels”.
“She has her fight inside the ring and outside the ring and I fight within my own ring and outside my ring,” remarked the Immaculate actress.
Sydney further said, “Misunderstood. Complicated relationships. Growing up as a woman. Carving out our own paths and figuring out who we are.”
Meanwhile, the new movie Christy has reportedly bombed at the box office, only grossing $1.3 million after the weekend release.
