After nearly three decades in Hollywood, Brittany Snow is proving that growth comes with taking risks.
The 39-year-old actress is in the midst of one of her busiest years yet, with three major television releases in just three months — Netflix’s The Hunting Wives and The Beast in Me, along with Hulu’s Murdaugh: Death in the Family.
Speaking exclusively to People magazine at a special screening of The Beast in Me in New York City on November 5, Snow reflected on what she calls a year of personal and professional challenge.
“This year has just been one of those years where I challenge myself, and sometimes I miss and sometimes I win, and I get to learn from it all,” she said. “That’s really exciting for me.”
Snow shared her pride in The Beast in Me, a Netflix miniseries following author Aggie Wiggs (Claire Danes), who isolates herself after her son’s death before finding inspiration in her mysterious new neighbor, real estate mogul Nile Jarvis (Matthew Rhys).
The series also stars Natalie Morales, Kate Burton, Jonathan Banks, and Will Brill, with Snow portraying Nile’s wife, Nina.
“I think this was such a departure for me in terms of getting to be a part of a show where I really admired everyone and being able to be in the same community and the same room with some people that I grew up loving and holding my own,” she said.
“I think I’m really proud of myself for that. I love these people involved.”
Before this creative resurgence, Snow took a two-year hiatus before Pitch Perfect to focus on her mental health. “During that time, I had to learn how to handle my anxiety and my nerves,” she previously shared. “But that time off was hugely important for me to find out who I was.”
Looking back, Snow said her idea of success has evolved since starting her career at 12 on Guiding Light. “Success, to me, is the fact that I’m still doing this, and I love it even more now. I remind myself all the time that I didn’t give up.”
The Beast in Me debuts on Netflix on Nov. 13.
