Jonathan Bailey is celebrating a new title to his name.
The actor says being named PEOPLE’s 2025 Sexiest Man Alive feels bigger than a personal milestone, it’s a moment he hopes sparks “progress.”
The Wicked and Bridgerton star, 37, became the first openly gay man to receive the honour when the announcement was made on Nov. 3.
Speaking to Forbes on Nov. 6, he called the recognition a “huge honour,” adding that stepping into the moment felt both meaningful and fun.
“There’s nothing sexier than progress,” he said, explaining that he accepted the invitation without hesitation because he knew it carried real weight.
He shared that he grew up admiring people considered “sexy,” but also those who reshaped the way society understands identity.
For him, the acknowledgment is something he hopes younger members of the LGBTQ+ community can see themselves in.
“I know what it means, you know, for me — for little me — and also, for a lot of people out there. It’s a celebratory moment for a lot of people,” he said.
Bailey also touched on how his career has allowed him to support causes that matter to him.
He spoke about The Shameless Fund, his charity focused on raising money for LGBTQ+ advocacy work through brand partnerships. He noted that many people have big ideas but don’t feel they have the space to pursue them.
The chance to collaborate with those who have expertise in the field, he said, feels empowering during a time when LGBTQ+ groups face growing pressure.
As Bailey continues to embrace this new title, he remains focused on what it could mean for others, seeing it not just as a personal spotlight, but as a sign of ongoing progress.
