Maya Hawke has recently opened up about her love for Anxiety role in Inside Out 2 movie.
The Stranger Things actress explains how her character helped “little kids understand their brains”.
“That movie made people so happy and feel so seen,” says the 27-year-old during an appearance on latest episode of Amy Poehler’s podcast Good Hang.
Maya shares that she “felt honoured” to play Anxiety in an animated movie.
“With this movie, that character, I've had so many people feel so seen by it and, like, little kids feel so seen by it. And, like, it helped them understand their brain better,” points out the Little Women actress.
Maya discloses that she usually gets requests from friends who are parents to record messages in the Anxiety voice, particularly, at a time when their children are “struggling”.
“I'll turn on the little speaker and be like, ‘Hi. Oh, I know it's really scary when parents have to go to the doctor's office, and I know that it makes you nervous but the thing is, you just take deep breaths and trust that your daddy will be safe, and that the doctors are gonna take great care of him,’” mentions the Wildcat actress.
Maya tells Amy, “I will do things like that, and I don't mind at all. I love it.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the actress also spills key lessons she learned from Anxiety role.
“It taught me a lot about showing love to that part of myself and, like, allowing other people to see it so they can show it love,” continues Maya as she refers to people suffering from anxiety or panic attacks.
Mainstream actress further says that this role also helps her “to address each point like offering a comfortable chair and saying, like, okay. You're invited”.
“I'm not trying to shut you out behind a door. Because that, of course, just works it up even more.” she states.
Meanwhile, Maya adds that the biggest thing she learned from doing this role is to “give my anxiety a comfy chair”.
