Sydney Sweeney ignites 'anti-feminist' allegations after red carpet event
Sydney Sweeney called out for provocative move at Women's Empowerment Day
Sydney Sweeney has once again landed in controversy after her recent public appearance at the Variety Power Of Women event.
The 28-year-old actress attended the red carpet event in a daring outfit, which seemed to be a “little inappropriate” for the occasion, as social media users argued.
The White Lotus star, who has often complained about not being taken seriously for her acting, shared the same sentiment in her speech at the event, as she said, “I know what it feels like to have to prove that you deserve to be here, to be seen, to be taken seriously.”
However, the speech didn’t help her case since X users pointed out how the message doesn’t align with her actions, writing, “She’s literally at the Power of Women podium talking about being underestimated while wearing a dress that puts her body on display more than her message.”
Another echoed, “Beautiful dress, wrong occasion for it though,” and, “That dress doesn’t empower but overpower,” wrote one.
While a third chimed in, “Nothing empowering about her showing her body to be objectified which she has complained about,” with one agreeing, “Okay, I'm a feminist but wth is wrong with her.”
Continuing the anti-feminist allegations, another questioned, “What does she do for the women’s movement? Does she donate? Does she volunteer? How does she advocate for women’s issues?”
Sweeney has not addressed the criticism, while she continues to promote her new movie, Christy, a biopic of legendary boxer Christy Martin.
