The Conjuring fans received delightful news following the box office success of their film, The Last Rites.
The news was confirmed by multiple outlets that New Line Cinema are putting a prequel to Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga's horror series into development.
As per Variety, screenwriters Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, who co-wrote The Conjuring franchise instalments The Nun II and this year's The Conjuring: Last Rites, will write the new prequel's screenplay.
However, it remains unclear who will play Ed and Lorrain Warren, whether the original actors will reprise the role, or new actors will fill the space. According to the outlet, the new movie will likely feature the couple's "early years" and will see new actors portray the real-life duo.
The Last Rites made a new record by being the only horror film with a massive opening weekend. The film made $194 million worldwide during its first three days of release.
Apart from the spin-off film, the Conjuring franchise will also make its way to television on HBO. It is reported that HBO is developing a TV series that will continue the film series' story in some form, with producer and screenwriter Nancy Won as its executive producer, writer and showrunner.
