Anthony Hopkins has spilled some deep insights about his life in new biography, We Did Ok Kid: A Memoir.
Released on October 28, the 87-year-old actor’s memoir reflects on his eminent films and theatre career, his difficult childhood, facts about his turbulent marriage with ex Petronella Barker and his path to sobriety.
In the book, Anthony opened about the "saddest fact of his life", in which he revealed about going away from his only daughter, Abigail.
The Hannibal star revealed that his addiction of alcohol pushed him into depression and became the reason of his separation with Barker and his daughter.
He described in the chronicle that one day “he returned from working on location in Scotland. Exhausted after endless days on set and the long trip home, I set down my suitcases in the hall.”
Hopkins recalled that before he took off his coat, his estranged partner already started mocking him.
In that moment, he felt so afraid for her and himself as he thought he would turn "physically violent" if he stayed there.
The Thor actor confessed, “I had never been physically violent, but in that moment, I was filled with such revulsion that I became afraid for both myself and her.”
After that, he never contacted Petronella and Abigail for a few years, however, Anthony kept supporting them financially.
“It is the saddest fact of my life, and my greatest regret, and yet I feel absolutely sure that it would have been much worse for everyone if I’d stayed.”
