Noah Schnapp is keeping fans guessing about a possible on-screen romance in the highly anticipated final season of Stranger Things.
In a TikTok video shared on October 27, the 21-year-old actor grinned as he read a fan comment asking if “Byler” — the fan-made name combining Will Byers and Mike Wheeler — would finally happen.
“Is Byler happening or not?” the fan wrote. The comment referenced Schnapp’s character, Will Byers, and his unspoken crush on his best friend, Mike Wheeler, played by Finn Wolfhard.
“You guys love saying this,” Schnapp said in the clip, which showed him shirtless and smiling from his bed. “And I never listen.” He continued, “It’s probably the most commented comment in all my late-night videos. And I always ignore it.”
Fans quickly filled the comment section with more speculation, with one writing, “You ignore it because you know it’s true,” while another added, “We need Byler.”
Earlier in the week, Schnapp had already teased fans with another cryptic post — a selfie video featuring Tiffany’s song I Think We’re Alone Now and the caption, “This song will be in season 5… I wonder why.” He hinted even further in the caption, writing, “Y’all are on to something.”
Theories about Will and Mike’s relationship have long circulated among Stranger Things fans, particularly after season 4’s emotional scene in which Will indirectly confesses his feelings through a conversation about Eleven.
Using a painting as a metaphor, Will tells Mike, “You’re guiding the whole party, inspiring us… Because without heart, we’d all fall apart.”
Schnapp previously credited playing Will for helping him come out as gay, telling Variety, “Once I did fully embrace that Will was gay, it was just an exponential speed towards accepting it for myself.”
Stranger Things season 5 will be released in three parts on Netflix — Volume 1 on November 26, Volume 2 on Christmas, and the series finale on New Year’s Eve.
