Emma Stone took inspiration from ‘Poor Things’ on hiding ‘Bugonia’ role
Emma Stone shaved her head in a bold move for Yorgos Lanthimos film ‘Bugonia’
Emma Stone shared how her film Poor Things, for which she earned an Oscar, inspired her in keeping the bald look form Bugonia a secret.
The Amazing Spider-Man actress plays a high-profile pharmaceutical CEO Michelle Fuller in her forth film with director Yorgos Lanthimos.
In an interview with the People magazine, Lanthimos revealed that Stone disguised her look to maintain an element of surprise, despite not loving to wear beanies for three months to keep the secret.
Sharing how their 2023 hit film gave her the motivation, the Kinds of Kindness filmmaker said, "Because one of the great things that happened with Poor Things nobody had seen pictures of [her character] Bella's look, that really long black hair."
Hence when the trailer dropped and they learned about the fan reaction, “It was like, 'Whoa.' It's nice when it's revealed later."
Similarly, while filming Bugonia, there were "no pictures or candids from set" encouraging Stone on "Why not keep this up for a little bit?"
After making up her mind on keeping the look a secret, Stone kept the transformation close to her chest, so much so, she actually never made her bald look red carpet official.
During the premiere of A Real Pain at the 62nd New York Film Festival last October, Stone opted to wear a wig and earlier this year, she debuted her grown-out pixie cut at the Golden Globes awards.
Stone’s film, Bugonia is slated for release on October 31.
