Cracks are beginning to appear between King Charles and his two nieces Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie amid the ongoing ordeal with Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.
The monarch, who had been mindful of the impact his nieces would be going through as the York family undergoes massive life changes, believed that it was unfair for Beatrice and Eugenie that they are dragged along with their controversial and scandal-ridden parents under public scrutiny.
Prince William also shared the same sentiments about his cousins but the impact of the royal family’s decision is taking a toll on the sisters, according to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams.
He suggested that both the Princesses know that what their uncle and cousin are doing is the next logical step but for the girls, it doesn’t change the fact that Andrew and Fergie are still parents to them.
The King, on the persistence of his heir William, forced Andrew to relinquish his royal titles and honours given the public outcry and protests. Moreover, there are now even advanced talks to remove the disgraced royal from the Royal Lodge.
“The consequences of the scandal surrounding Andrew and Sarah Ferguson are unforeseeable,” Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk, adding that it will depend on the contents of the Epstein files.
“It will also, since they are Andrew and Sarah’s daughters, partly depend on how Beatrice and Eugenie perceive how their parents are treated,” he explained.
“Prince William reportedly favours a policy of totally removing Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, bar a church service, from all royal events. Events are moving very fast and that is effectively the position now.”
He pointed out that all these moves “aren’t likely to endear the King and Prince William to Beatrice and Eugenie” but they were important steps which were taken to protect the monarchy.
