Jon M. Chu hints at big new twist in ‘Wicked: For Good’
‘Wicked’ director reveals what he hopes for fans to feel while watching the sequel
Jon M. Chu gave fans a glimpse of what to expect from the highly anticipated sequel, Wicked: For Good.
Wicked follows the story of how Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande), went from being classmates and best friends at Shiz University, turned against each other as Wicked Witch of the West and Good Witch of the North.
In an interview with People magazine, the Crazy Rich Asians director said that when fans will watch Wicked: For Good he is hopeful, "they get the joy and love of movie one, but there's extra meat on this one."
"This is where you get to see Cynthia [Erivo] and Ariana [Grande] really come to life as actors," Chu added.
Taking about the change in their dynamics through the sequel, the filmmaker continued, "This is their adult selves looking back at their childhood dreams, that are now shattered in front of them. So when you look back, I think people will see only both movies as one, not just the first movie and the second movie."
When asked if he had any secrets planned to excite the fans, Chu playfully teased, "I hope they get a few surprises that they're not thinking about right now."
In addition to Erivo and Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Ethan Slater, Jeff Goldblum, Marissa Bode are reprising their roles.
Meanwhile, Colman Domingo is the new addition to cast, who will voice Brrr the Cowardly Lion.
Wicked: For Good is slated for release on November 21.
