Austin Butler set to join Michael B. Jordon in ‘Miami Vice’ reboot

Austin Butler is in talks to star alongside Michael B. Jordon in popular crime series reboot, Miami Vice.

According to multiple media outlets, the Elvis star is set to portray Don Johnson's Detective James "Sonny" Crockett in the upcoming film.

The new reports came days after multiple media outlets confirmed Michael B. Jordon starring as Ricardo Tubbs, the character which was played by Philip Michael Thomas.

As per Deadline, Butler's casting is yet to be confirmed, while the production will begin in 2026.

Dan Gilroy is adapting the 1980s TV series for the big screen along with two time Oscar-nominated screenwriter, Eric Warren Singer.

The upcoming film is directed by Joseph Kosinski, which marks a second attempt at bringing Miami Vice on silver screen. Back in 2006 Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell starred in Michael Mann’s adaptation which received mixed reviews.

The iconic 1980s series follows lives of two undercover detectives, James "Sonny" Crockett and Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs, as they work to combat drug trafficking, murder, and other crime in the glamorous and corrupt underbelly of Miami.

The 1980s series received numerous awards and nominations during its run. 

Don Johnson won Golden Globe for the Best Actor in Television Series – Drama in 1986. Meanwhile, Edward James Olmos won Best Supporting Actor – Series Miniseries, or Television film in 1986.

The series also received 20 Emmy nominations including an award for Edward James Olmos.
