Stranger Things two-hour finale is set to make an emotional cinematic farewell.
The series creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, fulfilled their dream of having the final episode played in theatres.
After fighting for such a possibility, the streaming platform, Netflix, finally, in an Instagram post, announced, "Fans can experience the final episode of Stranger Things on Netflix and in select theatres in the US & Canada on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. More info to come!"
The screenings will take place in more than 350 locations in the US and Canada, beginning December 31 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, timed to the episode's global premiere on the Netflix platform, and will run through January 1, 2026.
Following the announcement, Duffer Brothers released a joint statement expressing their gratitude to the streaming platform for making it happen.
"We're beyond excited that fans will have the chance to experience the final episode of Stranger Things in theatres, it's something we've dreamed about for years, and we're so grateful to Ted, Bela, and everyone at Netflix for making it happen," they said.
The statement continued, "Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfect dare we say b---n' way to celebrate the end of this adventure."
Earlier this month, when the streaming website rejected the request for theatrical release, Matt, in an interview with Variety, said that the audience rarely recognises "how much time and effort is spent on sound and picture," adding that many end up viewing it "at reduced quality."
He emphasised that the theatre screenings are also about "experiencing it at the same time with fans."
Further information about the theatre locations and how to attend fan events will be announced later this year.
Stranger Things' fifth and final season is releasing in three volumes, with first part coming out on November 26, second volume on Christmas and third set of episodes on New Year's Eve.
