It’s Emily in Paris: Rome edition!

After being confirmed for a renewal last year, the highly-anticipated fifth season of the hit Netflix show is set for release on December 8. Netflix released the first teaser trailer on October 22, confirming that Emily Cooper and company are swapping the City of Lights for the Italian capital.

The trailer begins with Emily, played by Lily Collins, opening a window to the streets of Rome.

An accented voice narrated, “We start on beautiful woman. She is joined by a man,” referring to Emily’s latest relationship with Marcello Muratori (Eugenio Franceschini). “It’s clear they know each other, unable to keep their hands off each other… eventually sharing a kiss.”

In the caption, Netflix teased, “Hearts will rome farther than ever before… EMILY IN PARIS returns December 8!”

The release date was first confirmed back in August, with pictures of Collins and Franceschini on set teasing a Rome setting.

Season four ended with Emily getting together with the Italian fashion scion and moving to an Italian apartment. The official description reads: “Now the head of Agence Grateau Rome, Emily faces professional and romantic challenges as she adapts to life in a new city. But just as everything falls into place, a work idea backfires, and the fallout cascades into heartbreak and career setbacks.

“Seeking stability, Emily leans into her French lifestyle, until a big secret threatens one of her closest relationships. Tackling conflict with honesty, Emily emerges with deeper connections, renewed clarity, and a readiness to embrace new possibilities.”

Collins, who has been playing the titular character since 2020, told Netflix’s Tudum, “Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily, because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work-life balance.”

Meanwhile, Emily’s neighbour and on-again, off-again boyfriend Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), will have to “deal with the repercussions of his choice” after breaking up with Emily, only to realise at the end of season 4 that he wants to be with her after all.
