Zoe Saldaña confirms 'Avatar' documentary release before 'Fire and Ash'
Zoe Saldaña promises rare look behind the scenes in new 'Avatar' documentary
As anticipation builds for Avatar: Fire and Ash, hitting theaters December 19, Zoe Saldaña has revealed that fans won’t have to wait that long to return to Pandora.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning actress confirmed that a new behind-the-scenes documentary, spearheaded by director James Cameron, is expected to release before the third installment of the Avatar franchise.
“Yes! I think we are going to be able to see it before Fire and Ash,” Saldaña shared, adding that the documentary is currently in its final stages. “I’m really happy that that time has come where we get to really lift the veil, lift the curtains, and invite everybody backstage to the world of Pandora and what it takes to come together.”
For Saldaña, the doc marks an important shift—one that allows fans to experience the immersive storytelling and technical wizardry from the artist’s point of view.
“Now I feel that time has arrived where we get to invite people into a deeper sort of place, which is backstage. And that’s where I honestly believe for all of us artists, that’s where the true magic happens.”
Filmed between 2017 and 2019, Fire and Ash has been years in the making, and Saldaña emphasised the dedication and innovation it required.
“It takes a lot of hard work, a lot of physical strain to do that. We’re not just lending parts of us—we’re really pouring everything that’s in us into what we’re doing in Avatar.”
