‘I Play Rocky’ unveils Anthony Ippolito as Sylvester Stallone
Anthony Ippolito traces tumultuous journey of young Sylvester Stallone in ‘I Play Rocky'
I Play Rocky has revealed first look of Anthony Ippolito as young Sylvester Stallone, who is gearing up to film his hit debut project 1976's Rocky.
Ippolito flawlessly channelled Stallone appearance in the newly released photo by Amazon MGM Studios.
The Purple Hearts actor was seen wearing, grey cut-off sweats, a thermal top and black shoes, similar to Stallone's gear in Rocky film.
The caption of the post read, "The film tells the true story of Sylvester Stallone and his unshakable belief that he wasn’t just meant to write Rocky, he was meant to be Rocky Balboa."
According to Deadline, the official synopsis of the story reads, "A struggling actor with a partially paralyzed face and a speech impediment writes a script that a big movie studio wants to buy, but he refuses to sell it unless he gets to play the lead. He turns down the multi-million offer and works for pennies to get the movie made with himself as the main character."
Once released, the movie went on to become a box office hit in 1976, earning 10 Oscar nominations and winning the Best Picture.
The upcoming film is being directed by Peter Farrelly. He will also produce the film alongside Toby Emmerich and Christian Baha. Meanwhile, Peter Gamble is the screenplay writer.
In addition to Ippolito, the cast includes Stephan James as Carl Weathers, who portrayed Rocky’s fierce rival Apollo Creed, as well as Anna Sophia Robb, Matt Dillon, P.J. Byrne, Tracy Letts and Jay Duplass.
I Play Rocky release date is yet to be announced.
