PTI stages protests across KP seeking judicial probe into May 9, Muridke incidents
PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged protests across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday to demand the formation of an independent judicial commission to probe alleged firing on PTI workers during May 9, November 26 and Muridke incidents.
Party leaders said the protests were held under directives of PTI founder Imran Khan.
In the provincial capital, PTI district president Irfan Saleem led a protest outside the Peshawar Press Club, reiterating the call for accountability and justice. “Unarmed PTI workers were targeted on May 9 and November 26. And protesters were also targeted in Muridke and no action was being taken against those responsible. Successive governments have failed to safeguard constitutional rights,” Irfan Saleem said.
He added that the protests were peaceful but would continue until an impartial judicial inquiry was established.
The PTI leader urged citizens nationwide to unite in calling for transparency and justice. “The people deserve to know why unarmed protesters were fired upon. It is the duty of the state to hold perpetrators accountable and ensure public safety for all,” he added.
Protests were also held in other districts. In Malakand, Tehsil Chairmen Afzal Hussain and Nasir Ali led rallies at PK-23; in Buner, Tehsil Chairmen Haji Rozi Khan and Sher Alam Khan, along with leaders Malik Arshad Iqbal Khan, Qaim Khan, Zia Hussain, and Advocate Inamur Rahman, addressed large gatherings. In Mansehra, PTI KP vice-president Kamal Saleem Swati led a protest at Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Chowk, while demonstrations were also reported in Mohmand and Khyber districts.
PTI leaders said that all protests remained peaceful but warned that the movement would continue until a judicial commission was constituted to probe the incidents and hold those responsible accountable.
